Spyware Terminator 2012 comes with free manual and automatic updates. Updating is quick and easy, and highly recommended to maintain your computer with the most current threat detections and the latest algorithms for removing those threats.
To access Update settings click the Spyware Terminator 2012 advanced menu, select “Settings” and click on “Update settings” or “Basic Update Settings”. The following window will appear:
Use Automatic Update - This option will enable automatic updating. If disabled, all sub-settings will be disabled.
Update method – You are given a choice in the method to update.
High priority update from Spyware Terminator 2012 servers (A) – Spyware Terminator 2012 will download updates directly from its servers.
Client-to-Client download (B) – Spyware Terminator 2012 will download updates via Client-to-Client distribution system. This means you will download updates from other Spyware Terminator 2012 users and other users will be able to download updates from you.
How does the Spyware Terminator 2012 Client-to-Client distribution system work?
Our Client-to-Client distribution system is based on the BitTorrent protocol (See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BitTorrent_(protocol) ). It allows updates to be shared among Spyware Terminator 2012 users. This means that you are able to download updates from other Spyware Terminator 2012 users and they are able to download updates from you. BitTorrent protocol is commonly used on the Internet for sharing files.
The main advantage of this system is its speed. With a conventional server download (this option is still available) you are not always downloading the update using your full Internet speed due to bandwidth demands on our download servers, and occasionally, you may not be able to download an update because of the servers are busy due to high traffic. However, a Client-to-Client download system removes these inconveniences. The more users share the updates, the easier and faster the users are be able to download the updates.
Spyware Terminator 2012 is using an open source torrent library called libtorrent, developed by Rasterbar Software (See http://www.rasterbar.com/products/libtorrent/index.html).
If you are downloading an update from another Spyware Terminator 2012 user, you become a "peer". The update is downloaded from other users called "seeds" and "peers".
Peer is a user who is downloading an update and simultaneously distributes the download to other users.
Seed is a user who has a complete copy of the update and continues to offer it for upload.
Download speed is influenced by the number of users who are downloading/sharing it at a given moment. The more seeds there are, the better the download speed will be. The number of seeds and peers for each file is displayed in the Spyware Terminator 2012 update window.
Active and Passive Users
Downloads between two users are not always possible. At least one user (the one who is downloading or the one who is uploading, or both) has to be an "active user". This means that his computer can be reached via Internet from another computer.
Active user is a user with a public IP address or using port forwarding (specific ports are forwarded to his/her PC), so his/her PC can be reached from another computer on the Internet.
Passive user is a user without a public IP address. This means he can’t be reached from another computer on the Internet.
If the passive user has a public IP address on a router and can modify its settings, he can become an active user. Spyware Terminator 2012 uses the first available port which ranges from 6881 – 6889 (standard BitTorrent ports), so it's perfectly able to coexist with any other BitTorrent client. (It is possible to change these ports in the Spyware Terminator 2012 control center.) If you are able to forward ports which are set up in the Spyware Terminator 2012 Update settings to your local IP address, you will become an active user. Each router uses a different interface so it may be helpful if you refer to your router’s documentation and look up how to do this (look for "port forwarding" or "port triggering") or you can find the instructions on how to do it for your specific router on the Internet (e.g., see http://p2p.weblogsinc.com/2005/04/24/how-to-configure-your-router-to-allow-fast-bittorrent-downloads/).
Becoming an active user also enables you to download updates from passive users, so your download speed will be significantly increased.
If you’re unsure if this is a possibility for you, simply contact your Internet provider. He can offer a solution on how to become an active user.
If you’d rather not use this Client-to-Client download distribution (e.g., you have a data limit on your Internet connection), you can still use the conventional server download. This setting can be modified in the Spyware Terminator 2012 Control Center (under the Settings tab select “Update Settings”).
Application Updates Settings:
