China Reels from its Largest DoS Attack

September 06, 2013  Malware News

A denial-of-service (DoS) attack on China’s domain extension .cn at the end of August caused about 1/3 of the country’s websites to go temporarily offline. An overwhelming amount of Internet service requests came in at approximately 2 a.m. Chinese time on August 25th with a second round at 4 a.m., causing some websites registered to the domain to fail. Users faced seriously sluggish responses times for hours following the attacks. Noted as the largest DoS attack to ever hit China, its source still has not been identified.
