Ransomware Targets Ads on Trusted Websites

Malicious ads, known as malvertising, are tempting visitors into trusted domains that have been hacked and infected with ransomware. These ads, discovered by Cisco Systems®, can be found on sites associated with Facebook®, Disney®, the Guardian© newspaper and more. Visitors clicking on tampered ads are unknowingly redirected to malware-infected sites that eventually invades their computers, encrypts their files and demands payment within a specified amount of time to decrypt them.
