Microsoft Acknowledges Windows Defender's Detection of Spyware Terminator as a False Positive

On April 4, 2008 we encountered Microsoft's security application - Windows Defender - detecting Spywareterminator.exe as Adware:Win32/Generic.A. Windows Defender's Detection of Spyware Terminator Was a False Positive
As you may know, even security applications make mistakes. Sometimes a safe program file is added to a malware database and is detected as a virus, or other kind of malware. This time it was Windows Defender that detected Spyware Terminator as adware; next time it may be a part of your operating system whose loss could cause your computer crash.
You can never be sure if an antivirus program's detection is legitimate. Faster HIPS database building - The speed of Host Intrustion Prevention System (HIPS) database building has been significantly increased.
Enhanced Internet Explorer & File Extension Shield - Spyware Terminator now guards your default search provider, and notifies you of any attempt to change it, giving you the option to block this attempt.
Improved hidden libraries on-boot removal process - If Spyware Terminator detects a library file that pretends not to be present on the disk, it will attempt to remove it during the booting of the computer.
Minor bug fixes - Thanks to our users, a few minor bugs have been revealed and fixed.
