The popularity of such groups is usually because of a carefully chosen name and either promises of interesting new applications or easy winnings. One of the classic cases is called Stalker Catcher. Through different variations, this fraudulent group promises users that they will be able to see who is looking at their profile. The aim of course is nothing else than to direct the user into sending invitations to all their contacts and adding them into the group. Thanks to this method, defrauders are able to acquire large databases of contacts, which are then used for more complex phishing attacks, sending spam mail or even sale of the databases full of contacts.
